Trail riding is the opportunity to take a few day, a week or two off to just enjoy your horse, the nature and hopefully the good company of other horse lovers. Trail riding means riding outdoors on natural trails and roads as opposed to riding in an enclosed area such as a riding arena.
Usually you spend about 6 to 8 hours in the saddle per day. Obviously that varies but this is in most cases true since you can manage the greatest distance without exhausting your horse too much. Of course after 3 or 4 hours of riding there should be a break not only for the horse but also for the rider. That’s a good time to talk, laugh, grab a snack and maybe take a little nap comfortably lying on the hard ground.
The nights are often spend camping, but in many cases you can even sleep in hotels. For the nights a piece of land is rented and prepared for the horses. One person usually sleeps close to make sure they are still there in the morning. (From experience I can tell you that it really isn’t that much fun if you have to run around searching for a group of horses that decided in the early morning hours that they would look for a more appetizing place…).

My last trail ride was one in Germany that lasted 5 days and led us through the (little) mountains and hills of the Eifel from one old castle to the next. There are no words to describe how beautiful and amazing that time was.
